In this digital age, cybersecurity plays an essential role and is in great demand these days in ensuring security of essential systems that supports our daily lives. Cyber threats are continually evolving and becoming more sophisticated. The recent data shows a record-breaking number in terms of the amount of data that was lost around the world in breaches and cyber-attacks. It also set a new record for the number of attacks. That is why cybersecurity awareness is crucial and also in great demand these days. The fast pace of change, the challenge of solving problems, and the plentiful career opportunities available is making this emerging field more interesting. Looking at the increasing demand in this emerging field, Thakur College of Engineering and Technology have started the BE-Computer Science & Engineering-Cybersecurity course from A.Y 2021-22 with an intake of 60. The strong pillars of department are its well experienced faculty as well as its enthusiastic students who are facilitated by state of art infrastructure and equipped Research laboratories.
With a programme structure that is based on Choice Based Credit Grading Scheme with holistic and multidisciplinary education (CBCGS-HME), it has a duration of four years. This course is designed by adding various initiatives to ensure that students will have an overall development and can equip themselves with holistic multidisciplinary education. This course will not only help the students to pursue their careers in Computer Engineering but also open doors to explore the world of Cybersecurity. The curriculum offers Basics of Science, Engineering and Humanities courses along with the core Computer Engineering subjects which are required to gain the expertise as a Computer Engineer. As the curriculum advances, it covers concepts related to Cybersecurity (Basics to Advanced). The course offers core Computer Engineering subjects like Mathematical Foundations, Data Structure, Operating System, etc. As the course advances, the specialized courses are offered like Cybersecurity are Fundamentals of Information Security, Cyber Defense, Cybersecurity Laws, Cybersecurity for Social Media, etc.
The graduates of Cybersecurity have a promising career as the job market in Cybersecurity is also expanding and will continue to expand in the future. It provides multitude of job prospects like Network Security Engineer, Cyber Security Analyst, Security Architect, Cyber Security Manager, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Cryptographer, Security Engineer to name a few. As The International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts that worldwide cyber security spending will reach $174.7 billion in 2024, with security services the largest and fastest-growing market segment which will see revolutionary changes in this field, this emerging area has a lot to offer.
